A Detroit nonprofit organization says it hopes to call up 10,000 volunteers for a weeklong blight removal project in the city's Denby neighborhood.

Life Remodeled kicks off this year's project Monday in the northeast side neighborhood. Work includes removing blight on 300 blocks surrounding schools, boarding up 300 vacant houses, remodeling homes and working on a park next to Denby High School.

The nonprofit says it's working with the school, which has had blight removal as part of its curriculum since 2013.

Life Remodeled, launched in 2011, selects a different Detroit neighborhood each year for its efforts.
