"I was too busy ducking inside," said Ralph Bernard Tilles about the moment he heard the hail of gunfire.

Tilles and others were inside his beauty supply store on Detroit's west side around 1:00 pm Tuesday when they heard the shots.

Detroit Police say the shooting involved an ambush by at least two men who opened fire on another man as he went to a vehicle that was parked in an alley behind several businesses along West McNichols near Warwick.

Police say the men fired 30 to 50 rounds from what they say may have been an AK-47.

A nearby business owner also walked outside with his AK-47 and a pistol to see what was happening and if he could help.

But the victim was gone and so were the shooters.

At first, Detroit Police were not sure if anyone had been struck. But the victim was later located at a local hospital.

Witnesses say the shooters were in a vehicle in a nearby parking lot for about an hour before the shooting.

Detroit Police are hoping video from surveillance cameras will help them identify and then locate the gunmen.

At least for now, the motive is not known.
