A neighbor dispute escalated, putting police and school officials on high alert.

Tuesday afternoon, witnesses reported seeing a man with a long gun chasing another man down Dickerson, onto the property of GoLightly Career and Tech Center.

GoLightly and nearby Carstens Elementary were put on temporary lockdown status.

A retired police officer working at GoLightly encountered the two men in the parking lot.

The man, said to be in his 30s, put down the gun without incident. The other suspect took off on foot.

Detroit police thought they caught the suspect a couple blocks away on Kercheval, only to later find it wasn’t the right suspect. They later took him in custody at Jefferson Square residential community, where both men live.

Detroit police say the incident started with a dispute between the two men after one tried to break into the other’s apartment.  The victim was able to get the man’s long gun away, and chased him down the street on school property.  Detroit police tell Action News no shots were ever fired.

Both men are in police custody while the incident is being investigated.
