Weather caused some problems for people who live in one Detroit neighborhood. Some strong winds knocked a massive branch off an old Maple Tree right onto Blackstone Street.

It left people struggling to get where they need to go.

Neighbors called on 7 Action News for help getting the tree cleaned up in the neighborhood near Outer Drive and I-96. They said they didn’t know how to reach the appropriate people at the city.

Todd Mistor, The Superintendent of Forestry and Ground Maintenance for the city of Detroit responded to our call. He says he wants residents to know there is a relatively new and easy way to get action if you see such a problem.

“The easiest way for a resident to let us know about this is through the Improve Detroit app,” said Mistor.

It is an app you can download to your phone.  You can take a picture of an issue, and share it instantly.

“If you use your smart phone and take a picture that is the most helpful way. Then we know exactly what the situation is. We can even prioritize without sending out an inspector, without taking that additional step there,” said Mister.

City crews cleared the tree on Blackstone shortly after our call.
