Northbound I-75 has reopened at Schaefer Highway in Detroit following a closure due to a fatal accident.

Two people died in the accident that happened on I-75 near Dearborn Street. Police say a third person was injured.

All three victims were in one car, a Chevy Malibu. Police says the driver and a back seat passenger were killed. The front seat passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Officers say none of them were wearing seatbelts.

Police say the accident happened around 3:30 p.m. They have determined that a pick-up truck was driving erratically when it struck the rear end of the Malibu.

The truck ended up about a quarter of a mile from the scene of the accident, on the left shoulder. The truck's driver has been taken to the hospital for evaluation. It is possible that driver suffered some type of medical incident.
