"All these schools need to be fixed up," said Artivia Grant whose nine-year-old daughter attends Dixon Educational Learning Academy on Trinity Street near Joy Road on Detroit's west side.

A tipster who was inside the school Thursday sent 7 Action News a short video that shows water leaking from the ceiling into a hallway and being caught in a small dumpster and garbage can.

The tipster said the affected areas were closed to students but that one teacher slipped and fell.

That tipster went on to say that the roofers failed to tarp the area before the heavy rain.

A spokesperson for the district released the following statement Thursday afternoon:

The water leakage is due to existing problems with an outdated roof. The district hired a company to repair the roof over the summer and that work has been ongoing and will be completed shortly. Today's heavy rain and the associated leakages demonstrated the need for the repairs. Water leakage at the school will no longer disrupt teaching and learning once the repairs are completed.
