Officers are the ones that help the community, but one veteran cop is now the one that needs the community's support.

Officer Frank Gregory has worked tirelessly to help keep Detroit safe for the best 20 years. Now, he is in another battle that could cost him his life.

Frenzela Gregory said, "Just to see your child and you can't do anything for them, to se them suffering - words just cannot even explain it."

Officer Frank Gregory's mother, Frenzela, fights tears as she talks about her son.

Frank was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called sarcoma. While he is fighting for his life - his mother and police partner, Officer Katherine Price, are asking for help.

"His insurance recent expired and he had a difficult time getting his bills paid because he can't work anymore," Price said.

She has been Frank's partner for the past seven years.

"Put his life on the line for his community and I hope that, in return, that the community would reach out to him and help him out in his time of need," Price explained.

The 46-year-old was diagnosed last May. The cancer has quickly spread to his lungs. But, after getting surgery, the tumor returned this past fall.

"He is a very giving and loving person," Price said.

Frenzela added, "Frank is just a type of person you would just love."

Frank is a father of two girls. He loves photography and cycling.

Friends and loved ones hope for a speedy recovery.

Price added, "We are going to keep believing and praying that he is going to come out of this."

Officer Gregory's partner set up a Go Fund me page to help with the expenses.

They are also hosting a bike run fundraiser in May
