PETA has put up a controversial billboard in Detroit.

It features graphic images of the R & B star DWN, naked with her skin being torn off.  PETA says the message is that leather comes from animals, who aren’t treated humanely.  It reads  “Leather Is a Rip-Off. That Leather Jacket or Upholstery Was Someone’s Skin.”

In a blog post PETA says, “The billboard was rejected in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and DWN’s hometown of New Orleans for being too “graphic.” Detroit was brave enough to allow the message to be displayed—the billboard just went up by the M-8/Davison Freeway, near the I-75 exit.”

Not all people appreciate it.  Some people walking by the billboard say the graphic and nude image is distasteful.

"Why would you have something like this where kids can see this?" asked Brian Harvey of Detroit.

Others who saw it say it is an important message, raising awareness about where leather comes from.
