State Police say this incident of road rage early this morning on I-94 near the Lodge Freeway was not just a crime. It was stupid.

1st Lt. Mike Shaw says, “Basic stupidity.  That’s what we’re looking at. Now we just picked it up a notch.”

A Jeep and a Kia were jockeying for lanes just after 6 am when the Jeep hit the Kia on the passenger side.

But after that, a male driver pulled a gun and fired one shot at the Jeep.

“Fortunately the only thing that was hit out there was metal.  This could have been the victim being struck by the round, an innocent bystander, ricocheting hitting a child,” Lt. Shaw said.

A woman was treated and released with minor injuries from the crash.

That man was held by state police while they discuss the case with the Wayne County Prosecutor.

The man had a CPL, but that won’t mitigate whether he is charged.

The charges could be illegal discharge of a firearm or more, like assault with intent to do great bodily harm.
