People gathered in downtown Detroit at the intersection of Randolph St. and Jefferson Ave. on Saturday to fight against white supremacy.

The call to action came after the attack in Charlottesville, Virginia last weekend during a neo-nazi march. A riot broke out and a woman was killed when a 20-year-old man drove his car into a crowd of protestors. 19 other people were hurt.

Demonstrators at yesterday's rally said the events hit close to home.

"We recognize that black Detroiters in Detroit are actually doing a lot," one demonstrator said. "This is a time for us to come together again as a community and provide a safe space for healing."

The rally's organizers say their goal is to eradicate white supremacy not just in Detroit, but across the nation.
