Several times a year, police across metro Detroit come together hitting the streets to put parole violators back behind bars.
It's a massive operation that lasts for 48 hours to get dangerous parole violators, even some killers, off our streets.
7 Action News reporter Ann Marie LaFlamme got a rare behind the scenes look at the parole violator sweep with the U.S. Marshals.
What was at first 2,500 parole absconders became less than 1,100 after the 48-hour sweep.
"Parolees, you know they’ve already been convicted, they’ve already gone to prison and they don’t want to go back so they have an even more vested interest because they know what it’s about," U.S. Marshal Deputy Rob Watson said. "So we make sure we have all the tools whether we need them or not and that way they’re available and staged so we can simply grab them and go."
