"My sense of security is gone," said Michelle Sabour who returned home Thursday after picking up her children from school and noticed that the side door was open. "That was a shock. I said, 'They got us.'"
Since mid-August, Detroit Police believe a group of young thieves has been targeting homes in the Warrendale neighborhood, operating in waves and making their moves in the afternoon when people are at work or running errands.
"They should be in school," said Michelle's husband, Moulaydriss Sabour. "They should be having something for the future because this is a very short life.
Detroit Police Captain Kenneth Balinski tells 7 Action News that detectives have made one arrest and continue to work with those whose homes have been targeted.
Last month, we talked to several homeowners who had a number of items stolen in an earlier wave of burglaries on Faust and Penrod streets, in the area West Warren and the Southfield freeway.
In one case, the thieves smashed out the glass blocks on a home to get in through the basement.
Last week, when the thieves struck the Sabour's home, they went in through a window in the front of the house.
The family's central air went out, so they had a portable AC unit in the front window. A neighbor reportedly saw three teens push the AC unit in and step on top of a gas meter to climb in through the window.
Once inside the house, they stole a number of items including a television, a coin collection and two long guns in their cases.
