Popular restaurant Shake Shack will open its first location in downtown Detroit this morning, and with the opening comes some special menu items specialized for the Detroit location.

Located in the First National Building in Campus Martius Park, the restaurant will open at 11 a.m.

On top of classics including beef burgers, chicken, fresh-made frozen custard and more, the Detroit Shack will have special frozen custard concretes.

Those include:

  • Motor City Mix: Vanilla custard, peanut butter sauce, Bon Bon Bon dark chocolate with Rocky's honey roasted peanuts and chocolate toffee
  • Pie Oh My: Vanilla custard, Sister Pie featured pie
  • Shack Attack, Detroit Edition: Chocolate custard, fudge sauce, Zingerman's black magic brownie and Mast Brothers Shake Shack dark chocolate chunks, topped with chocolate sprinkles.

They will also serve beer, wine and more, with Michigan brews including Cheyboygan Brewing's Blood Orange Honey Wheat, Griffin Claw's El Rojo Red Ale and Short's Huma Lupa Licious India Pale Ale.

Madison Delas said, "We've had it before, we thought it would be really busy and we really love it so, we are dedicated."

The long line wrapped around the First National building. This New York chain definitely fits with some Detroit decor.

The employees started their morning with an Eminem rap. Shake Shack is employing more than 50 Detroit residents.

The company has also teamed up with Gleaners Community Food Bank.

They are getting some of their supplies locally.

"Chocolate maker Bon Bon Bon, we are working with Rocky's (Historic Eastern Market) peanuts. We are working with Sister Pie and also Zingerman's in Ann Arbor."

Stephanie Roy explained, "Oh my God it tastes so good. This is my first time having it. I'm so excited. It's just as good as everyone says it is."

As part of the restaurant's mission to help, the Detroit location will donate 5 percent of sales from the Pie Oh My concrete to Gleaners Community Food Bank.

A limited-edition t-shirt, they designed with John Varvatos, will also be available for sale at the location and at shakeshack.com.
