Detroit police have two people in custody after one of them allegedly pulled a handgun on them during a traffic stop.

It happened at Hoover St. and East State Fair late Tuesday.

Police say they were investigating a stolen vehicle during the traffic stop, when two people in the car took off running from the scene. One of them reportedly hopped a fence, then pointed a gun at the police officers.

The officers then opened fire but missed the suspect, according to police.

The suspect dropped the weapon and ran off and the gun was recovered by investigators.

A third suspect who was also in the vehicle did not attempt to run. He was taken into custody.

Officers were later able to locate the man they believed pointed the gun at them. The 21-year-old was taken into custody at a home on the 12000 block of Sanford.

Police are still searching for a third person who is believed to be a minor.

During the incident, one officer had injuries to his leg and trouble breathing.
