A specialized arson unit made up of police and fire investigators is now working hard to catch those behind the heinous crimes.

Lots of people in the community - including the firefighters - know lives are being put at risk, and that catching those responsible is more crucial than ever.

"It's dangerous and someone in your family could be caught on fire or someone you care about. Please don't do it" says neighbor Carolyn Easterly who fears the worst.

Sources confirm since October, dozens of vacant homes have been hit typically between 4 and 9 am, sometimes several at the same time.

Nichelle Gaston Pressley, an Angels Night Volunteer says, "My aunt lives in this area, and she's older. I want to make sure children and elders are all safe during that time."

Sources say the area being targeted is between 6 and 8 Mile roads, and near Hoover and Gratiot. While many homes that have burned were vacant, other properties including businesses have also caught fire suspiciously.

Arson investigators continue to ask for tips that could lead to the arrest of those responsible and they are offering a $5000 reward.

Thankfully, so far there have been no deaths or serious injuries. To report a suspicious fire call (800) 44-ARSON.
