The gifts were stacked up high against the wall, the stockings hung with care, and the Christmas tree was so tall it touched the ceiling. That's the kind of Christmas Imannia Barber and her family wanted her sister and her three children to have.

"My sister doesn't have a job. She's been saving. This is their first Christmas," Barber said.

But the family returned to their home in the 3000 block of Sturtevant St. Sunday night to find the place ransacked.

“We were here yesterday wrapping the gifts, all of them, and trying to do an obituary for my mother," Barber said.

She is also grieving her mother, who died Friday. She said a happy holiday was supposed to be the silver lining.

Family members told police the thieves who broke in also took a TV, an Xbox, cash, diapers, and their grandmother's wedding ring.

“I don’t think they were thinking at all. I pray to God everything is right within them. I'm not mad at them. I'm hurt,” Barber said.

Barber said she noticed some people lurking in the neighborhood over the weekend, and she said she suspects the culprits had been eyeing the house in recent days.

Evidence techs came out to the house to take some fingerprints. Anyone with information or anyone who noticed suspicious activity around the house is asked to call Detroit police.
