Thousands will ring in the New Year at a huge party in the heart of the Motor City.

The party is already in full swing at campus Martius Park. People are having a blast listening to music, ice skating, taking carriage rides, eating and visiting the heated tents.

At 6:30 pm, an old English “D” will drop to mark the start of a new year for the kids who still have to be in bed early.

Then, for the grown ups another "D" drop will happen right at the stroke of midnight at Cadillac Square.

In the meantime, there is also a big screen for Spartan fans to watch MSU play in the Cotton Bowl.

More than 20,000 people are expected there for the massive party sponsored by Bedrock.

You don't want to miss it.

Also important to mention - Detroit police, Michigan State Police and federal partners have stepped up security to make sure everyone is safe tonight.
