Michigan State Police say three people were killed and another person was critically injured after an accident on I-94 in Detroit overnight.

According to Lt. Michael Shaw, it happened just after 1 a.m. near Helen Ave.

Police say the driver of a Chevy Trailblazer was traveling "at a very high rate of speed" when the driver lost control, went up the embankment, hit a light pole and rolled several times back onto the freeway.

The driver, front passenger and one rear passenger were all ejected from the car.

Two of the people ejected from the car were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third person was taken to the hospital and later died.

The other passenger had to be extracted from the car with the help of the Detroit Fire Department. They were taken to the hospital and remain in critical condition.
