DETROIT (WXYZ) - Jury selection is set to begin today in a murder trial involving the father of Aiyana Jones, Charles Jones, and Chauncey Owens.
Aiyana Jones was the 7-year-old girl who was shot and killed during a Detroit police raid in 2010.
Both Owens and Charles Jones are on trial for the death of 17-year-old Je'rean Blake, a teen who was shot to death outside of a strip mall on Detroit's east side a few days before the raid.
Police say they had been looking for Owens when they raided Jones' home.
During that raid, a police officer's gun went off and Aiyana was shot and killed.
Police have said the shooting was accidental. The officer, Joseph Weekley, was charged in Aiyana's death with involuntary manslaughter and careless discharge of a weapon.
Weekley stood trial in the summer of 2013, but the case ended in a hung jury. A pre-trial conference for a new trial is scheduled for early February.
In the meantime, Owens and Charles Jones have been charged with murder in Blake's death. Jury selection in their case was expected to get underway at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
