DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit Police are trying to figure out why someone shot Rustie Schloss’s two dogs, Samson and Sadie.

It happened Monday on the city's west side. According to Schloss and DPD, the two dogs were inside their fenced-in yard on Wormer Street at the time.

“Why would you do something like this. My dogs have never done anything to anybody," said Schloss.

She believes a neighbor pulled the trigger.

Sadie was grazed by the bullet, but 2-year-old Samson was struck in the chest. He was rushed to a nearby animal hospital and is expected to be okay.

Capt. Darrell Patterson with DPD's 8th precinct told Action News there appears to be an ongoing feud between the neighbors.

“After I noticed that Samson was shot and the blood was everywhere, I freaked out, " Schloss said. "It’s torture to me because I come home to these guys. These dogs have been my therapy. And they’re my world.”

DPD is investigating several claims related to this shooting, including some claims from the neighbors. Officers are still conducting interviews but said if they have enough evidence, they’ll request a warrant.

Schloss said while both dogs are expected to OK, their medical bills are already more than $3,000. The family has created a Go Fund Me page to help pay for those costs: https://www.gofundme.com/76f7p-puppy-shot.
