A pair of Detroit's finest is facing hard times recovering from a shooting that nearly took their lives.

Officer James Kisselberg served the City of Detroit for 20 years keeping the streets safe with his partner Benjamin Atkinson.

Eight months ago, they came across Raymond Durham, the man police say gunned down Wayne State University Police Officer Collin Rose. While searching him, Kisselberg was shot several times in his upper body and Atkinson was hit in the chest.

Kisselberg says it's a struggle to regain strength in his neck and shoulders, and financial challenges are becoming increasingly difficult for him and Atkinson.

A fundraiser held at Tony V's bar in Midtown on Friday will help both officers and their families as they face bills and medical expenses.

The cost is $20 at the door for dinner, and there will also be a special auction.
