DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit Police tell 7 Action News that the 17-year-old student from Walled Lake Western High School who was shot in Detroit is being "uncooperative" with their investigation.
Michael asked that we not show his face. He and his mother talked to 7 Action News earlier this week after the district informed them that he had to finish his senior year online and he cannot attend graduation.
District officials said it was a safety decision. Michael told us that he doesn't know who shot him.
On Friday, Michael and one of his older sisters said that the shooting that took place around 5:30 p.m. on February 24 happened on Stahelin near Joy Road on Detroit's west side. Michael said he provided the specific address on Stahelin to Detroit Police.
But Detroit Police said the teen provided several locations and they have not been able to locate the shooting scene.
Michael and his sister dispute DPD’s claim that he’s been uncooperative.
Friends that were with Michael that day drove him to a hospital in Novi.
And on a Novi Police report, an officer who talked to Michael at the hospital wrote that the teen told them that the shooting took place in Detroit at the intersection of Archdale and Fitzpatrick.
The teen "said the male suspect had dreadlocks but could not recall much else," the officer wrote in the report. And "he believed he may know who the suspect was and identified him via his Instagram name."
Michael denies telling Novi Police any of that information and maintains that he has no idea who shot him. Michael says he wants to be able to walk with his class at graduation.
Detroit Police said the shooting remains an open investigation.
