Sharon and Ralph Hazen have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on their retirement home on Crooked Lake in Genoa Township in Livingston County. In June, they had to stop construction and were faced with tearing it down because they deviated from plans that were approved by the North Shore Village Association, which sued.

Now, both sides have settled out of court with the Hazens paying $5,500 to the association to cover its attorney fees. The changes they made was move the house 11 feet and turn it 7 degrees from the plans.

A majority of people who live in this association,103 out of 168 signed petitions against 3 of the 5 Association Board members to start the process to oust them.

They say this became personal for them and support the Hazens and their new home.

Construction resumed today after the court settlement.
