Warren police are investigating the apparent drowning of a toddler in a pool.

Family friends tell us it was little Kevin who lost his life this afternoon, when he fell into his family's backyard pool.

Detectives told 7 Action News the family had been recently working on the pool on LaChene in Warren, making all the necessary safety adjustments for the summer.

Investigators searched a car on the driveway for a while, taking out a few items.

They say the 22-month old was on the deck, when he somehow ended up in the water.

We're told his mother discovered the boy around 2:15 pm, and neighbors called 911, running to the boy's side after hearing the screams.

Some neighbors tried performing CPR on the child, before he was rushed to the hospital.

Investigators, on scene for hours, say it's a gut wrenching call to be on.

Warren Police Deputy Commissioner Matt Nichols says it's traumatic for everyone involved, especially the family. He notes his officers are emotional when dealing with this type of tragedy.

The investigation is ongoing, as they look at what safety protocols the family had around the pool.
