Embattled Macomb County Trustee Bucci retires from public works job

7 Action News has learned that embattled Macomb County Trustee Dino Bucci has retired from his job at the Public Works Department.

A spokesperson for new Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller confirmed he has left the department, but deferred any further comment to the county's Human Resources Department.

Bucci is at the center of a lawsuit claiming he tried extorting money from a contractor. 

According to the lawsuit, Dino Bucci tried to extort more than $75,000 from a contractor in order for the contractor to get a refund on investments.

Gianna Investments is seeking nearly $500,000 after they say they paid $151,000 for construction permit fees and water and sewer fees for a commercial building project. The project is now being completed by another company.

They tried for years to get a refund from Macomb Township, but according to the lawsuit, Bucci "intentionally interfered by engaging in improper and illegal activities. During the day, Bucci for the Macomb County Public Works director.

The lawsuit was filed just days after the FBI announced it is conducting an investigation into widespread government corruption in Macomb County.

Bucci remains on the Board of Trustees.
