Drivers aren't the only ones dealing with challenges when it comes to roads. Some business owners
say road projects are also impacting the number of customers walking in their door.
One big project happening now in Macomb County is along M-59 between Romeo Plank and Garfield.
It is phase 2 of a reconstruction project. It is expected to be finished in the fall.
Russell Achatz owns Achatz Burgers along M-59. He says, "It's been a real challenge to stay in business .. with this last year and this year so far."
Along with the reconstruction of the road, the second phase of work includes making the turn around lane, a fourth lane.
Louis Morin is the manager at American Cycle and Fitness. He says the road work is impacting business there, too.
"At certain times of the day .. when we might see people stopping in on their way home .. I feel like they're just trying to get home now after dealing with the traffic," says Morin.
Drivers and business owners in Macomb County will also be dealing with more traffic headaches soon.
In the next couple of weeks, because of so many potholes, Schoenherr will be resurfaced between 15 and 16 Mile. A stretch of Mound Road will be resurfaced in the summer.
There's also the reconstruction of I-696. All westbound lanes will be closed from I-75 to I-94. That could begin as early as May.
Achatz says, "A short term pain is a long term gain. That's the way I look at it .. and I think anybody that stays and suffers through it will reap the rewards of it."
