(WXYZ) — A Macomb County mother and a group of generous strangers are giving us a lesson in second chances, love, and hope.

7 Action News Reporter Andrea Isom is taking us on the journey of a community that is making a house a home. But to complete this mission they need you.

What is happening for 24-year-old Taylor Matt and her little girl some may call a miracle. The two are getting a brand new start in a brand new home.

It was a team effort by students at Chippewa Valley and Dakota High Schools, Macomb County Habitat for Humanity, Level One Bank, dozens of volunteers and donations.

This is the true meaning of community - strangers coming together to help make Taylor’s dreams come true.

Things were going smoothly until someone broken into the home before it was completed. The vandals destroyed what was done. This setback cost a lot of time and a lot of money.

Plus there is a tight deadline looming over them. The house must be finished by January 19, 2020.

“Now, we’re just reaching out to the community and saying please help us!," says Helen Hicks, President and CEO of Macomb County Habitat for Humanity.

So, please go to the website sign up to volunteer or make a donation, if you can. The season of giving should not be just for the holidays. It should be every day.

So, let’s do it metro Detroit! Let’s be that village! And make this house a home!
