The aging Macomb County Jail and the county justice system as a whole, were on the hot seat at the Macomb County Commission late today.

The talk surrounds a 100 plus page report that finds critical lapses in how the county’s criminal operations are run.

Nineteen key issues, including an antiquated court system and a housing facility that needs to be rebuilt, were highlighted, says the sheriff.

The next step is for the sheriff bringing the commission solid cost estimates and floor plans.

But the commission as a whole is on board with the notion the current system needs to be replaced, said the commission chair.

The report was commissioned by the sheriff and county executive. It was done by an outside consultant.
