Eastpointe police have person in custody after shots fired near businesses

UPDATED 5:31 a.m.: Eastpointe police say a person of interest has turned himself in in connection with a shooting involving police.  No charges have been filed and police are not saying if the person of interest is Deon Deonte Stanford, the accused gunman in the Friday's shooting.

Police are searching part of Eastpointe after shots were fired following reports of a man with a gun.

In a Facebook post, officials identified a person of interest in the case as Deon Deonte Stanford.

A call came in to dispatch at 5:45 pm of a man armed with a gun. The shots were fired after police arrived on the scene.

It’s unknown where they came from. 

No one was injured, but people were inside a building at the time of the shooting. The building includes several hair and nail salons.

Police says the shooter has fled the scene and K-9 officers are tracking him, but without any results so far.

The scene is located at Gratiot Avenue and Owen Avenue. The business is blocked off with police tape.

The front door of the building appears to have glass shattered from gunfire.

People are being urged to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
