A union representative for firefighters in Macomb Township tells 7 Action News that cost is being put before safety when it comes to staffing. Currently, there are five full-time firefighters plus a Chief and Deputy Chief.

The township says they have an addition nearly 50 paid on call firefighters ready to respond to fires and other emergencies. They also claim response times are among the best.

While citizens we talked to are eager to see if more people will be hired, they don't necessarily feel nervous about the staffing. A public meeting Wednesday night will further address the issue.
