STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Family and friends are in shock over the loss of 67-year-old Elizabeth McKalpain and 66-year-old Herman McKalpain.

They were both found shot to death in a condo near 16 Mile and Schoenherr Roads in Sterling Heights Monday night.

They were friends at Kettering High School back in the 1970s, went on through their adults lives with their own families and divorces. Then a couple of years ago they reconnected.

Lexine McKalpain says Elizabeth helped her older brother Herm fight through cancer.

They were happily married last May on Herm’s birthday. Lexine says there have been other health issues in the family but no one saw this coming.

Herm McKalpain is a former WXYZ-TV editor and photographer who last worked at Channel 7 in 2007.

There’s a lot of pain for a lot of people going around for friends and family.
