WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Two candidates running for Warren City Council believe they are being targeted and their campaign signs stolen.

Some have been removed, some have been found in the trash. They both have filed reports with police to investigate.

Jerry Bell and Melody Magee are both newcomers to Warren City Politics. Bell is running in the 5th District and Magee is running in the 1st District. Both are on the south side bordering Detroit.

Bell says he hopes it is not because of the color of his skin. He’s African American. He is also facing only one other candidate, so his race will be decided in November. Magee is running in a crowded field into the August Primary.

Some of Bell’s signs were removed at the corner of 8 Mile and Van Dyke. A store on that corner has surveillance cameras that may have recorded who took them.

Bell is also asking people to help if they see somebody taking signs to roll video on their cell phones.
