(WXYZ) — Prosecutors say a brutal stabbing happened on the roadway in Macomb County, after family members began arguing inside a moving vehicle.

Seconds later, the woman suspected of the crime led police on a high speed pursuit through 2 cities.

“She’s not even the one who was at the center of the argument, but she got out of the SUV, and stabbed her cousin twice in the neck. She then left him bleeding for dead in the middle of the road, but thanks to a quick police response he survived,” says Prosecutor Eric Smith.

The victim is currently in critical condition.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Crystal Kelly of Chicago is charged with assault with attempt to murder and other felonies, which carry up to life as a sentence if convicted. She also allegedly exceeded speeds of 100 mph on the road, as she tried to escape police.

Police in Clinton Twp. originally responded to the scene at 18 Mile Rd. & Hayes just before 4 am on Saturday. The arrest was eventually made at 15 Mile Rd. & Schoenherr in the parking lot of Sterling Heights High School.

Kelly is currently behind bars on a $1 million dollar bond, until her next court appearance.

“We’re just fortunate she didn’t hurt anyone else after what she attempted to do after the stabbing,” says Smith.
