"I've crashed before, but never this bad," said 13-year-old Jared Todd who is thankful for the bike helmet a woman gave him Saturday.

Jared met the woman after a car clipped her bicycle where a bike trail intersects Van Dyke and Campground Road in Washington Township.

Jared saw the accident and talked with the woman while waiting for an ambulance. She sustained some minor injuries, but her helmet was not damaged.

The woman asked Jared why he wasn't wearing a bike helmet and he explained how he has spent his money fixing up his used bike with his grandpa.

Jared and his mom are hoping to find that stranger because the day after the woman gave Jared her own bike helmet, the Washington Township teen wiped out on his bicycle about 50 yards away from where the car crashed into the woman.

Jared's arm was broken in two places and the helmet cracked, but Jared's head was protected.

Jared and his mom are hoping that by telling their story, they can find the stranger, give her a hug and thank her for the kind gift that may have saved his life.
