We’re learning more about the 18-year-old student that was arrested after being accused of trying to disarm a sheriff’s deputy in Oakland County.

It happened Tuesday afternoon at Oxford High School in Oxford Township.

The student being charged is 18-year-old Garett Broduer, a senior at Oxford.

His attorney Kevin Laidler says Broduer has post psychogenic non-epileptic seizure disorder. He says people with the disorder look like they’re having an epileptic seizure, but it’s not epilepsy.

After they come out of a seizure it’s like they’re in a sleepwalking state. They’re confused, agitated and sometimes angry.

Broduer was diagnosed with the disorder three years ago. Laidler says he’s been on medication and in therapy, but it hasn’t been helpful.

“This is the first time he's had a violent situation, he's a straight "A” student, is involved in three sports, and is active in his church,” Laidler says.

Oxford Community Schools sent email updates to their parents reassuring them that everyone is safe. They are working with Oakland County on the investigation.

Broduer will be arraigned Thursday.
