He is only 13-years-old and he has accomplished something remarkable. An eighth grader at West Hills Middle School in Bloomfield Hills got a perfect score on the ACT.

Alan Zhang says he learned his ACT score after he suddenly got numerous text messages.

“My sister and my parents were congratulating me, so I thought 'What is going on?' So I scrolled up,” said Alan.  “I had gotten a perfect score.”

He said he was so surprised that he dropped his phone.

The ACT is a college admission test most often taken by high school age kids. Alan said he took it to find out what he needed to work on to prepare for taking the test in high school.  He learned he doesn’t need to work on much in that regard.

His perfect score is a score that less than one tenth of one percent of students get.

“I am a little bit surprised, not too surprised,” said his mom Lijun Fei.

She said her son has a record of academic achievement.

Alan says the high ACT score is a relief. He doesn’t have to worry about test taking skills. He can focus on school and his hobbies.

He loves reading about history, forensics and is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
