Cannabis Cup coming to Clio, Michigan, High Times magazine editor sees real potential in our state

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Cannabis Cup. Ever heard of it? It’s a well known event with people from all over the world featuring panels, seminars, educational classes all geared towards marijuana. It’s an event attended by tens of thousands of people and this year it’s being held right here in Michigan.

Usually the cannabis cup is held overseas, at a place you may heard of Amsterdam, or a few other states in the U.S. But, this year, the people at High Times magazine are really switching it up, bringing the popular cannabis cup to Clio Michigan.

"It’s incredible, it’s a whole new day and age," Adam Scott Green, judge at this years Cannabis Cup said.

High Times magazine editor Danny Danko, see's major potential in Michigan.

"I don’t think everyone else in the other states understands what’s going on here in Michigan," Danko said.

The event has seminars, classes for those in attendance and allows judges from all over to sample cannabis and vote for their favorite marijuana varieties.

"Overall appeal. It just look the part, smelt the part," Green said.

This year it's all about Clio, Michigan

"Michigan is a place where I feel like there could be a rebirth of a certain economy here with cannabis," Danko said.

Local dispensary owners will also be in Attendance at this years event promoting what they have including infused food.

"We’re showcasing our famous lamb chops, macaroni and cheese steak bites and chicken bites and portobello bites," Wayne White Jr. with Food with a Twist said.

The popularity of marijuana and CBD products continues to rise in Michigan. The Cannabis Cup is an example of where it is today and where it can be tomorrow

"It’s the win it’s the big W it’s not to say it’s over there are a lot of other laws and things that we should definitely we should still pay attention to but it’s the victory we’ve all been hoping for," Green said.

If you go to the Cannabis Cup you are allowed to bring 2.5 ounces of marijuana with you. The event is tomorrow and Sunday. If you are planning on going and are between the ages of 18-21 you will need a medical marijuana card. If you are 21 and older no medical card is required.
