The City of Livonia is offering emergency shelter for residents who may have a power outage as temperatures turn frigid.

Livonia residents will be able to temporarily stay at the Jack E. Kirksey Recreation Center on Hubbard St. off of Five Mile and Farmington Road.

"Our Recreation Center has heat, cots, hot showers and power available," said Mayor Dennis K. Wright. "Staff will be available to provide short-term shelter for residents who may need it."

Residents who need help must arrive before 9 p.m. through Friday, 6 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday in order to arrange for staffing before closing time.

The recreation center can be reached at 734-466-2900.

Those who need to use the shelter will be asked to agree to a code of conduct while using the site.
