CLAWSON, Mich. (WXYZ) — Have you ever been to a restaurant and wanted to take home their wine glass or decor, maybe even the chairs? Now you can at Three Cats Restaurant in Clawson on 14 Mile Road.

It is opening next week.

Owner Mary Liz Curtain said, “It won’t be the same place twice.”

This place has already evolved so many times. Once it was a movie theater, but instead of dinner and show... try snacking and shopping.

“It all looks so good together.”

You can buy Michigan-centric gifts, greeting cards, decor, furniture and get a coffee while you shop.

“We have the largest collection of inappropriate greeting cards, I think, in the entire state of Michigan and we have our Michigan shop.”

She had a bright idea to do something unique by building a commercial kitchen in the back, collaborating with Chef Matt Prentice.

He said, “I’ve done a lot of restaurants, I’ve never done one in a unique setting like this.”

It’s a bit chaotic as they get ready to open next week.

Prentice explained, “It’s definitely not going to be the same ole, same ole.”

The dishes and ingredients will be very local.

“Why, why send the money out of state when I can keep it local,” the chef said.

And the menu will be changing with the harvest change, so whatever is in season will be on the menu.

“As we sell things, things will disappear and something else will be in its place.”

Mary Liz says the staff will be wearing clothes and jewelry that will also be for sale.

She said, “We are definitely walking retail.”

Tuesday night they are debuting with an event to benefit Cass Community Social Services.

“Open bar, full menu anything you want and every penny goes to Cass.”

Tickets are $150 and can be purchased at http://threecatscafe.com/

Mary Liz takes pride in the shop being welcoming for everybody, no matter the age.

“My favorite part of the dining room is the duck dining room, which is designed for our shorter customers,” she said.

Chef Matt and Mary Liz hope you go nuts over this concept...

He said, “If I like it, everybody will like it, because I hate to shop.”

The restaurant opens Friday September 20th.

“If they leave with a smile, we don’t care if they got a bag, we just want them to have a great time,” Curtain added.
