FARMINGTON, Mich. (WXYZ) — The number of coyote sightings being reported in Farmington is on the rise.

A coyote was recently spotted in the front yard of a home on Gill Road.

The U.S. Humane Society encourages people to carry a whistle when walking in areas where coyotes are known to wander. The best defense against the animals is to keep pets and pet food inside.

According to the Oakland County Parks Division, coyotes rarely attack humans. Bites from snakes, rodents and domestic dogs are a greater possibility than coyote bites.
