Detroit Zoo helps animals cool off today with frozen treats

Today, animals at the Detroit Zoo will be chilling out with frozen treats and "Cold Play."

"Cold Play" is designed to help animals engage in behaviors that make their habitats more dynamic in hot temperatures.

Events will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

The "Cold Play" schedule is listed below:

  • 9:30 a.m. - chimpanzees (frozen bananas)
  • 10 a.m. - polar bears on the Tundra (ice treats)
  • 10:30 a.m. - seals in the Polar Passage (ice treats)
  • 11 a.m. - grizzly bears (frozen fish)
  • 11:30 a.m. - bush dogs (ice treats)
  • Noon - otters (ice treats)
