Friends and family held a vigil for man shot and killed while watching a soccer game in Pontiac.
The shooting happened over the weekend at Aaron Perry Park in Pontiac. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
Deputies said the victim, 42 year-old Gilmar Carrillo, was sitting in the bleachers watching a game in the park, when he was hit by a bullet.
Investigators said two groups of men were fighting and started shooting, the gunfire hit and killed Carrillo, an innocent bystander.
Another bystander was also hit, but he was treated and released from the hospital.
Investigators do not yet have anyone in custody.
Wednesday night, family and friends gathered at Aaron Perry park to hold a vigil.
There were prayers and songs, in both English and Spanish, to honor Carrillo, who is from originally from El Salvador, but had been living the U.S. for the last 17 years.
His wife, Sandra Elizabeth Ramieres de Carrillo spoke with 7 Action News with the help of an interpreter.
"He was close to my heart, that was all I had,” she said.
The pair was married for 14 years. They moved here to escape El Salvador.
"Over there, there is so much violence and so much fear and to come all the way over here to find the same,” said Ramieres de Carrillo.
The group Pontiac Unsolved Crimes organized the vigil.
Organizers want to spread a message to stop the violence and encourage someone who knows something about the shooting to speak up.
"We have to come together no matter what color, no matter what race, what happened, we need to come together,” said Rolonda Williams, with Pontiac Unsolved Crimes.
