Ferndale is now among the first cities in the nation to permanently install an LGBT Pride flag within it's city council chambers.
Mayor Dave Coulter says a special dedication ceremony will be held at a council meeting this evening at 7 pm, and the entire community is invited to attend the ceremony.
"The move by the city is to send a message that we are an inclusive and welcoming city," says Mayor Coulter.
The city wants everyone to know that they are proud to represent people from various genders, ethnic and religious backgrounds, as well as people with various sexual preferences.
The new flag is being displayed next to the American flag, State Flag, County Flag and POW-MIA flag.
"Its sort of engrained in who we are in terms of equality," says Mayor Coulter.
While there have been some critics on social media, people we spoke with on the streets support the move.
Mayor Coulter is also hopeful the decision will serve as an example to other cities.
"We certainly want to see more communities embrace being inclusive," says Mayor Coulter.
