An Oakland County Circuit Court judge has signed a motion from the city of Southfield for a temporary restraining order that would halt drilling at the Word of Faith church.

The motion was filed on Friday afternoon by the city as it strongly opposes the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality's decision to allow Jordan Development to drill for oil.

The motion comes three days after the MDEQ granted a permit to allow drilling on the property owned by Word of Faith.

The public was strongly opposed to the drilling and voice their concerns at many public meetings over the last few months.

Also, the city said they have a moratorium in effect through April 28, 2016 that prohibits oil drilling or mining in the city.

The temporary restraining order will remain in effect until a hearing on Wednesday, March 16. At that time, the city will ask for a preliminary injunction to be issued.
