Last day to donate to soldier care package collection drive

TROY, Mich. (WXYZ) -   White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy will be hosting its Sixth Annual Care Package Drive to provide "a little bit of home and comfort" to overseas military troops.

   The cemetery will be collecting new items for care packages that troops might ordinarily find in their homes back in Michigan. White Chapel is working with the Michigan Military Moms who will package the items collected and send them to overseas military personnel from Michigan.

  The care package drive will take place from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Monday, September 9 through Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery at 621 W. Long Lake Rd. (west of I-75) in Troy in the Temple of Memories. A complete list of suggested items to donate can be found at

   Below is a partial list of most requested items that the Michigan Military Moms can include in the care packages:

Snack foods (individual size):
·    Microwavable food (Chef Boy-R-Dee, popcorn, etc.)
·    Individual drink mixes
·    Beef jerky
·    Cheese and crackers
·    Granola bars
·    Canned fruit/soups/tuna (pull tabs)

·    Word game books and puzzles
·    Deck of cards - UNO cards
·    Hand-held board games/ travel games
·    Hand held games (for their down time)
·    Frisbees, jump ropes and Nerf footballs
·    Magazines
·    Reminders of home - Michigan items

Personal health:
·    Baby wipes
·    Q-tips
·    Sun block, SPF 45
·    Zinc, Vitamin E
·    Gel deodorant
·    Gel pads for feet
·    Gold Bond powder (for boots)

·    Fabric softener/ dryer sheets
·    Socks
·    Phone cards
