Oakland County Sheriff investigators are hoping for the public's help in finding out what's happened to Bertram Weston, a 48-year-old father from Independence Township.

Weston was in the middle of a divorce and planning to move to back home to New York's Staten Island to start a new job closer to relatives.

He called a close family friend on April 27 to say he had just taken care of some business at divorce court and was about to get on the road after he stopped by his Oakland County home to say goodbye to his young daughter.

Family and friends haven't heard from Weston since that day.

The belongings he was planning to take to New York were already packed in his rented Toyota Sequoia. The vehicle was supposed to be returned to the rental company at John F. Kennedy International Airport on April 28.

Relatives say Weston never showed up at their family home.

He had reportedly gone missing in January, 2015, for two or three days, but he returned, later telling relatives that he just needed to get away.

On May 9, 2016, Weston's soon to be ex-wife contacted the sheriff's office to report that Weston had accepted a new job in the New York area, and she said he rented a vehicle to drive there.

On May 13, the rental company reported the vehicle stolen to the Waterford Township Police Department.

Close friends and family in New York, including Weston's sister, are trying not to fear the worst after the vehicle was found wrecked on Waldo Street in Pontiac last week on June 6.

We're told Weston is legally deaf. He wears a hearing aid, but if he's lost it, he's also able to read lips.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Weston or what has happened to him is urged to contact Oakland County Sheriff investigators at 248-620-4968.
