Construction for the M1 Concourse is underway in Pontiac. The old GM factory is turning into a playground for car enthusiasts.

It's being called a yacht club for cars.

CEO Brad Oleshansky explained, "What better use of turning an old auto factory into an auto enthusiasts' destination right on Woodward."

The plan is to turn 87-acres into a car lover's heaven.

The concourse offers 264 private garages for sale from $100,000 to a million dollars. One-hundred-twenty-five of those "car condos" have already been purchased, even though construction isn't finished yet.

The idea is to let owners keep their cars there or use the space in other ways.

"Guys want man caves to build a gold stimulator and keep a few cars here. We got people with collections of model ships and model airplanes," says Oleshansky. "One guy is building a museum for his model ship collection."

One of the biggest attractions will be the 1.5 mile race track for the car condo owners. Guard rails and tires will be in place to protect drivers, as well as an on-site medical staff.

"There's no potholes and no cops," Oleshansky said. "We have plenty of people with beautiful cars here and plenty of people beautiful inexpensive cars."

Can't afford a car condo? M1 Concourse will build shops and restaurants for the public to enjoy.

"Car shows, events, swap meets, auctions, trade shows, drive in movies, food truck rallies and all kinds of things," says Oleshansky.

Concourse officials hope it will boost the local economy.

"Drive a lot of traffic from Metro Detroit into Pontiac at a time when Pontiac is having a resurgence," says Oleshansky.

The facility will open in June, but the grand opening takes place in August 14 to help kick off the Dream Cruise week.
