Troy Police arrested a 28-year-old man Saturday afternoon after they say he assaulted his father and then put a police officer in a headlock.

Investigators say it began when the man was arguing with his father as his father was driving him and his mother to church.

As the father was exiting southbound I-75 at Big Beaver, police say the son, who was sitting in the back seat, grabbed at his father's seatbelt and pulled it against his chest and then brought it up around his father's neck.

The victim's son then got out of the car and took off running.

The victim and his wife then went to police, and an officer was able to locate the couple's son at a gas station at the corner of Big Beaver and Crooks.

Police say the suspect was agitated and began to tussle with the officer and then put that officer in a headlock and knocked him to the ground.

The officer was able to break free and used a taser on the suspect, but police say the suspect pulled the prongs out of his chest.

A second responding officer was able to help handcuff the suspect who police later learned has issues involving mental health.

The suspect was arraigned Monday on misdemeanor charges of domestic assault and assault on a police officer.

His father tells 7 Action News that he was released on a personal bond and is deeply sorry for what he's done.
