Southfield Police Officer Bob White had to act fast if there was any hope of saving a dog in distress and any surviving puppies she was carrying after a woman rushed the pregnant German Shepherd to the police department, saying the stray had just delivered three stillborn pups.

It's a bittersweet story that, on this Mother's Day weekend, ends with a caring rescue helping the dog be a mom to her only surviving little one.

The dog, now named "Nevie" and her puppy named "Nolan" are in the care of a foster with Almost Home Animal Haven. And the non-profit rescue in Southfield is hoping for donations to help with the medical expenses for both of them.

See their story in the video above and click here to find out more about helping Almost Home with their care.

You can also make a donation by sending a check to Almost Home, PO Box 250602, West Bloomfield, Michigan 48325. And please put "Help Nevie and Baby Nolan" in the memo.

Almost Home's shelter is located in Southfield at 25503 Clara Lane where they have other animals waiting for someone to love and a place to call home.
