A local family is asking for help in finding the hit and run driver that killed their loved one.

With no leads for police to follow, the mother of the victim is calling for her son’s killer to turn themselves in.

Marie Winekoff, the mother of 49-year-old Michael Proxmire, is pleading someone comes forward with information about who struck and killed her son late Friday night.

Police say Proxmire was riding his mountain bike on ten mile near Huron Street in Ferndale, when someone ran him over and left him for dead.

Winekoff, at times at a loss for words, says she doesn’t understand who would strike someone riding a bike and then take off.

Ferndale police along with crime stoppers held a news conference earlier this afternoon at Ferndale Police Headquarters to offer a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Meanwhile, Winekoff says she’s hoping whoever killed her son has a heart and does the right thing.

Police say a red Mustang was seen in the area at the same time Proxmire was killed.

Police aren't saying that person is responsible, but perhaps the driver of that red Mustang saw something.

They'd like to speak to that driver.

Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $1,000 reward for information leading to An arrest before midnight tonight.
